The current Common Application , CA4, launched on August 1st, 2013, have been expanded and revised for the 2017-18 college application cycle. Two new essay options have been added, and some of the old questions have been revised. When CA4 launched, one of the biggest changes from the previous version was the essay section. Gone were the six essay prompts from the past decade, and college applicants no longer had the Topic of Your Choice option.

The current prompts are the result of much discussion and debate from the member institutions who use the Common Application. With CA4, the length limit for the essay was increased from 500 words to 650 (the minimum is 250 words), and students will need to choose from the seven options below. The new prompts are designed to encourage reflection and introspection. If your essay doesn t include some self-analysis, you haven t fully succeeded in responding to the prompt.

OH FUCK MY COLLEGE APPLICATION ESSAYS

Stinks that tomorrow I have to write essays for my application

Ok, here is what I have noticed about "good" college essays. Usually what happens is that the student take a small, seemingly irrelevant incident (maybe like trying to draw a girl from a magazine) and relates it to a larger more profound point. It seems like you are inching towards this idea but from how you are describing it is sounds like the idea is not fully polished. If the essay is not well executed then (as others have said) it will probably just sound childish and leave the admissions officers scratching their heads. Trying to convey that you never give up on things you start is a good quality to convey. Take the idea deeper. Do you care about pushing your limits? Is this quality related to your intellectual curiosity? Although you don t need to explicitly state these things you need to keep them in mind. What concerns me most is how you describe ending the essay. "In the end I say I was able to do it". So what? You drew a girl, who cares. You have to always think about why its really important. I don t think it s a good idea to include the picture and ad. Another person s judgement about how well you accomplished it is not relevant to the point of the essay and could actually hurt you (imagine if the person reading thought you did a bad job- doesn t exactly help you out does it? and even if you impress them, unless you are trying to become an art major no one really cares). Good luck.
